Making complex patterns easily

Description

This is not really a tutorial (because I were too lazy to make one) I'm just giving two basic hints on how to make complex seamless patterns.

Start with simple shapes:
Although in the image you can see 2 different sizes of hexagons with different lengthed edges, when you start making seamless patterns I highly recommend using simple squares. You can get good results even with them. Anyway squares, hexagons, and other polygons are what you should start with, not the pattern itself. After you've used the polygons, you draw the pattern inside them using their edges and corners as guides.

Use rulers and guides:
I always sketch my patterns on squared paper before actually render them in photoshop and I recommend you to do so too. In photoshop there are also rulers and guides that you can use. Just click "view"->"rulers" from the top and you get rulers. After that you can get guide lines (the blue lines in the picture) by dragging them from the rulers with Move tool (hotkey "V" by default)

I hope this helps someone :)

I wish I had known these things when I were making that pattern myself >__< took me ages.If you like you can see it a bit better here [link]
